There’s a reason the Tithe Barn is one of the most iconic Wedding Venues in Yorkshire
The Tithe Barn at Bolton Abbey is, quite frankly, a masterpiece. It’s got the scale of a cathedral with the soul of a festival, and it’s one of my absolute favorite places to disappear into the background with a camera. I grew up nearby in Addingham and spent a lot of my childhood around the estate, so it is a particularly special venue for me especially.If you’re planning your day here, and you’re not looking for a photographer who’ll pose you for three hours or shout at your guests through a megaphone, but want the real stuff like the laughter, tears, the chaotic dance floor, and the epic Yorkshire backdrop without the "stiff" wedding cliches then here's a few of my top tips for your photosBetween the rustic timber interior and the vast Abbey backdrop, it’s a space that manages to feel both grand and intimate at the same time, lending itself perfectly to a range of photography.
the Morning build-up
Don’t underestimate the "getting ready" vibe. The Devonshire Arms is just a stone's throw away and is basically the gold standard for prep. It’s got the space, the light, and that touch of class that looks incredible in photos.
For the Grooms? There are some incredible Airbnbs tucked away in the surrounding Dales. Getting ready in a nearby quirky stone cottage with your best mates and a local brew is far more "you" and makes for much better, more relaxed storytelling.The Ceremony
What more can you say? The place was literally made for this - just an all round great space run by a fantastic team, lots of natural light and the freedom to give the space your own twist - something that tends to be the case for all Cripps & Co venues.
However you choose to use the space here, you can be confident of an absolutely stunning ceremony!
Speeches
Honestly one of my absolute fav parts of any Wedding, I don’t think I can pretend the Tithe Barn is better than any other place for speeches, but hey - those acoustics are pretty fantastic - and in fariness, what better setting to share your favourite memories or roast your family/friends?
The Group Shots!
It's not possible with every timeline, but if you're up for a tiny bit of adventure, there’s an alternative to the standard wall out the back group shots.
When the sun starts to dip, we’ll take five minutes to head down to Bolton Abbey. Groomsmen and Bridesmaids can join, or we can prioritise just the two of you. Either way, the way the light hits down by the river before sunset is pure magic, and it gives you a bit of breathing room away from the madness of the party while keeping it fun.

THIS PLACE REALLY COMES TO LIFE WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN AND THOSE FAIRY LIGHTS GET TO DO THE HEAVY LIFTING. IT’S JUST TAILOR MADE FOR GREAT NIGHT SHOTS IN A WAY A LOT OF VENUES AREN’T.
I ALWAYS STICK AROUND LATE, BECAUSE WHY WOULDN’T YOU? THE DANCE FLOOR - LUNGES, SPILLS, QUESTIONABLE MOVES, AUNTIE BRENDA DOING THE WORM TWO WEEKS AFTER A HIP REPLACEMENT - YOU MIGHT REGRET THESE MOMENTS TOMORROW, BUT WILL LOVE HAVING THE PHOTOS IN TWENTY YEARS!
